Mystic Waves (solo marimba)

Mystic Waves, written for solo marimba, is an etude on the minimalist technique known as “phasing”. With each phrase, both hands begin by playing a harmonic chord in steady eighth-note unison while one hand gradually shifts slightly out of time with the other to create tremolo texture, then synchronizes back in rhythmic unison with each new harmony. This pattern is continually repeated throughout the work as the harmonies gradually become increasingly chromatic.
